Jobseekers nationwide rejoice, unemployment rates in the UK fell by 60,000 between last October and December and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. If you’re reaching the end of your tether as a jobseeker, read this and hang onto your faith – employment is just around the corner.
As the BBC reports, unemployment is currently down to 1.69 million people according to the Office for National Statistics. Admittedly, that’s still a lot of people but bare in mind that that’s only 5.1% of the working population and contributes to the decade-low rate.
More than 30 million people are working in the UK which is the highest figure since the records began all the way back in 1971. It’s probably because our population has increased by 10 million people since BUT that’s no reason to stop feeling hopeful about the future.
That said, we’ve still got a lot of work to do to keep up the US unemployment rate of 4.9%. We’re nipping at their heels but with the US economy creating over 450,000 jobs to their nation in the last two months.
The best thing you can be doing is getting a job wherever you can and contributing to the wider economy. You never know when you could be back at home in the jobseeker position.
