Holding out for that dream job after graduating? Well, we’ve got news for you, and it isn’t good.
According to a survey by graduate recruitment company Pareto Law, employers reckon you should all be more open about the jobs you’re considering. And too many graduates hold ‘unrealistic job expectations’ about their employment prospects.
Their survey of over a thousand managers revealed that a quarter of them feel newly graduated workers are too picky about what job they take.
This is compared to one in ten of you who have just left university, who think you should ‘hold out’ for that dream job.
Furthermore, the study also highlights the importance of work experience in getting ahead in your chosen industry.
Almost a third of employers think unpaid placements are the way forward to getting that all important first job.
Sound grim? Well it isn’t all bad, the company who did the survey actually recruits 1,600 graduates every year. So they can’t be too picky themselves can they?
