As the old saying goes, ‘it’s not the journey, it’s the destination’. Well, whoever said that is completely right. Focussing on the end goals all the time can put WAY too much pressure on yourself.
Here are four reasons why you should always focus on processes in your work and life, not the outcomes.
1. You’ll be better at dealing with mistakes
Mistakes help us learn and grow. When you are too focussed on the desired end result you will be less willing to take risks or experiment. You never know, taking risks can propel you into a better end results than you were originally hoping for.
2. You’ll get satisfaction in pursing your goals
Success is in the journey, despite what you might think. Focusing on the present will make you more excited about what you are working on. You’ll be more in the zone and this means that your end results will be better.
3. You’ll be in charge
There will always be things going against you when you are trying to reach a certain end goal. Whether this is lack of time, support or technology, there will always be something holding you back. If you instead focus on the journey, you’ll have more self-esteem and feel FAR more empowered.
4. You’ll be less distracted
Pressure to deliver results is actually a huge distraction. You want to push yourself to do well, but this can actually hinder you. Focus instead on the process and you’ll be less distracted. It’s not always about winning you know.
