3 ways to make a difference to the world this month

Is your New Year’s resolution to be more charitable? Giving your time is one of the best way to go about helping others. Not only would you be making a difference, but you’ll also meet new people and gain new skills and experiences – everyone’s a winner!

In December, Radio 1 launched it’s #1millionhours campaign where they asked their listeners to pledge their time for those who need it the most, including 4 selected charities – Age UK, Barnardo’s, Cancer Research UK and Oxfam – hoping to spend 1 million hours between them to help others during 2016.

We know that everyone’s time is precious, but every little helps, and here’s 3 ways that you can too.

1. #1millionhours

Be part of helping Radio 1 reaching it’s 1 million hours pledge. The Pledge Form will re-open in the new year, but until then, take part in the movement by sharing on social media how many hours you’re going to give along with the hashtag so that they can count your helpful hours.

2. do-it.org

You can search over a million different charities and volunteering opportunities that you can apply for on this online database. Everything from keeping an elderly friend company for an hour or two, to committing to something more regular in your local area.

3. vInspired

Young people’s energy, ideas and experiences are at the heart of vInspired. Over the nine years they’ve been around, they’ve created over a million inspiring volunteering opportunities for young people through everything from online campaigns to social action projects. If you’re under 25, head straight to their site.

Now what?
