Known, among the young people, for being the home of Reading Festival, this Berkshire commuter town is a good weekend getaway if you want to downsize from the enormity of London without going too far. Granted, it’s not the most exciting or beautiful town in the country, but our weekend adventures do not discriminate!
And if you’re thinking: “I spent all my money last weekend in Bristol“, don’t worry. These great adventures aren’t just buckets of fun, they’re affordable as heck. Get on a train or plane or automobile or, if you’re lucky, step outside your door to soak in everything Reading has to offer.
1. Basildon Park
Normally we don’t begin with a park in this feature, but Basildon Park is probably the most interesting thing in the area. Experience a real Downton Abbey vibe with this National Trust house. The people over at Trip Advisor are going mad over the tea room, too. Sound lit, if you ask me.
2. Reading FC
Attending a premier league game can be both expensive and intimidating. You can still watch some quality Championship league football for a reasonable price every weekend. It’s not a bad way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon.
3. Museum of English Rural Life
Slow your roll, we’re turning up the intensity here! Seriously, this might sound like the most boring museum on planet earth but we’re all about making your own fun at List For Life. Check out if their summer fayre is on before you make the trip, though.
4. Teamworks Karting
If you need to shake off the excitement of the Rural Farm Museum, drive up to Teamworks Karting for, guess what, more driving. But this is fun driving with bumps and underage drivers and probably arcade games!
5. Binghams Brewery
Get some of Berkshire’s best beers in you and then get the hell out of Berkshire!
