In this new series we’ll be picking out some of our favourite YouTube channels and letting you know why we think they’re so great. From advice on how to ace a job interview to relaxing videos to help you achieve total mindfulness, you’ll catch it all on the VCR (Video Channel Reviews) feature.
Next on the VCR agenda is powerhouse lecture channel Google Talks, home to some of the biggest celebrities (Amy Poehler, Tina Fey and even NWA have all featured) , critically acclaimed writers and academics (Noam Chomsky springs to mind) and the world’s most ingenious developers in industries from tech to journalism.
The videos normally revolve around a standard chat show format or as a simple lecture. They’re in depth, funny and informative, and the best are transcendent.
The channel oscillates from deeply fascinating content to hilarious tongue-in-cheek wit, somehow combining the two in an engaging combination that makes a 50 minute talk perfectly manageable.
Our top picks from the playlist are Tina Fey’s ‘fireside chat’ with Google’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt to publicise her book Bossypants and world-leading meditation expert Emily Fletcher’s explanation of why her speciality is now the ‘new caffeine’. Fabulous, enriching stuff from one of the most successful companies in the world.
Got a free hour at lunch today? Why not take in an inspiring lecture right on your computer? It’s probably raining outside, so grab a sandwich from the canteen and then it’s straight back to your desk to learn something new, and maybe invaluable.
