Don’t Panic But Avocados Are About To Get A Lot More Expensive

Say it isn’t so?!

Instagram lovers listen up, we have some seriously bad news, and it’s all to do with the humble avocado. Yep, avo on toast might be a thing of the past. The horror.

According to a report by Uproxx, the avocado is soon to be classed a ‘luxury fruit’.

This shocking fate of the millennial’s favourite fruit (yes, it is a fruit), is down to weather conditions. Climate change and its effects, for example the Californian drought, have resulted in much smaller yield of avocados.

Throw into the mix our growing obsession with all things avo and you have a serious shortage on your hands. To give some perspective, in 1990 the average American ate 1.5 pounds of avocado a per year but by 2012 that number had increased to 5 pounds.  Yep, we’ve only got ourselves to blame.

Combine all this together and prices soar which means avocado (and all their related food items) are likely to get a lot more expensive.
Sob. What are we going to Instagram now?
