Lilah Parsons: ‘I Dress For Myself, Not Boys’

It’s official, we’ve fallen for Lilah Parsons! In a world filled with ‘It’ girls, she’s the one we want as our BFF. Catwalk model, TV presenter and now a bona fide fashion designer – is there anything she can’t do? Appaz not. We caught as we caught up with the Brit star to get a preview of her brand new collection for Yumi, and we’re seriously impressed…

Congrats on the new Yumi collection, Lilah! Talk us through it…

I’ve always loved French girl style, so I mixed that with retro Sixties silhouettes and prints, with a major emphasis on red – it suits every skin tone and hair shade. I made endless moodboards and kept a sketchbook throughout, which was a major throwback to my art school days.

Who is the Lilah for Yumi girl?

She’s someone who’s creative, artistic and just a little bit eccentric with her style! Above all, she’s a girl that dresses for herself, not boys.

Who would you love to see rocking your designs?

My dream scenario? Clémence Poesy – she’s so chic!

Is there anyone you wouldn’t?

Probably the cast of Geordie Shore, but I’m not sure they’d want to wear them either.

What’s your biggest ‘pinch me’ fashion moment?

My first time doing Fashion Week as a model. I walked for Vivienne Westwood and, during the fitting, the lady herself was there – and she knew my name! I was totally awestruck.

Do you miss walking in the shows?

Definitely not! It was so scary and I was constantly worried that I’d fall over or looked utterly ridiculous. I much prefer sitting on the FROW, taking it all in.

Have you had any Fashion Week disasters?

Last season, I turned up to the Julien Macdonald show all dolled up in one of his hot frocks, only to realise everyone was already leaving! Because of terrible traffic, I’d missed the entire thing.

Whose presenting career would love to follow in the footsteps of?

Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby for sure. Can I just be their brunette love child, please?

We’re a bit obsessed with your glossy mane – what’s your secret?

It’s super thick and gets knotty easily, so I always have a soft bristled brush on me, no matter where I am! To keep my fringe in check, I constantly carry a single roller with me that I pop in whenever I have a spare moment to give it extra bounce. Cue lots of funny looks…

You’re a fully fledged style maven, but is there anything you really regret wearing?

Oh yes, lots of things! My worst has to be a technicolour feathered monstrosity that I wore to Fashion Week a few years back. I had bright hair at the time, and I remember someone said I resembled ‘big bird at a disco’. Sad times.
