In what might come as a bit of a sartorial shock, the denim mini skirt is back. Yes, you heard. What’s sparked the return, you ask? None other than cult fashion brand Vetements, of course. The label responsible for the £800 ripped jeans (yes, really) which sold out faster than you could say denim (again, really).
Instead of pockets and polo shirt, this time it’s all about figure-flattering cuts, chic frayed hems and distressed washes.
Plus, the day-to-night potential is pretty impressive. Trendsetter Pernille Teisbaek leads the daytime crew, pairing her skirt with a white tee, embroidered coat and Gucci loafers. Selena Gomez, meanwhile, proves that with a lace-up body and over-the-knee boots, this wardrobe basic has serious sex appeal.
We’ll be styling ours with one of this summer’s sartorial celebrities- yes, we’re talking about an off-the-shoulder top. Add pointed, flat mules and you’ve got yourself one Insta-worthy outfit.
Topshop, Primark and Zara are all following Vetements’ lead, albeit with slightly more humble price tags. It’s true we never quite expected the denim mini skirt to return to our rails, but its merits are hard to ignore. We just thank God we’re no longer wearing them with Ugg boots.
