What To Expect From This Year’s Met Gala

We've got all the deets...

The Met Gala’s red carpet is being laid as we speak (probably). It’s that time of year again, when fashion’s brightest stars all convene on the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate a brand new exhibition by enjoying the exclusive event. A whole army of celebrities and designers are scheduled to attend, including Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West (natch), Blake Lively, Sienna Miller, Sarah Jessica Parker, Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, Karlie Kloss, James Corden… we won’t lie, the list goes on. And on.

While the event is strictly invite-only, guests can purchase tickets for a casual $30,000. Ahem. So naturally, we’ll all be enjoying the gowns from afar, checking out all the red carpet action. Here’s everything you need to know:

When Is It?

The event always falls on the first Monday in May, meaning that this year’s will be on Monday 1st May. Red carpet arrivals tend to kick off at 6pm (11pm UK time).

The Theme

Rei Kawakubo exhibit, 2017

This year’s theme will be around Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, the founder of Comme Des Garcons and concept store Dover Street Market. Kawakubo is known for his radical, directional designs which play with structure, proportion and bold prints, worn by sartorially fearless A-listers like Lady Gaga and Rihanna, so we’re expecting some seriously OTT outfits.

Who Will Host The Met Gala 2017?

Wait for it- Anna Wintour, Katy Perry and Pharell Williams. We know.

Who Will Attend The Met Gala 2017?

The guest list won’t be revealed beforehand, but the usual faces will be there. Numbers are usually capped at 700.

What Will Guests Wear To The Met Gala 2017?

In keeping with the OTT theme, we’re predicting plenty of extremity this year. Think statement structures and bold prints. As for designers, the stars tend to stick to their usual go-tos- Jennifer Lawrence with Dior, Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton and Queen Bey in Givenchy.
