Vince Camuto Tribute: The A-List Shoe Designer

Following the news of Vince Camuto’s death, LOOK remembers the man behind our most-loved billion dollar fashion labels. Vince passed away aged 78, following a battle with cancer.

New York accessory designer Vince Camuto – the man behind Nine West and co-designer of Tory Burch’s cult ‘Reva’ flats – became an instant hit with the A-list when he launched his label back in 2005. Kerry Washington, Jaime King, Taylor Swift and Rosie Fortescue are all Camuto devotees, while Hollywood starlets like Emily Blunt have even worn his designs to the Golden Globes.

Back in 2013, the accessory maestro finally brought his label to the UK, opening a swish store in London’s High Street Kensington and an e-commerce site so ladies nationwide could shop his designs. From flats to killer heels and the kind of bags that look like they should cost a month’s rent, but don’t, Vince’s aim was to create trend-led pieces from higher quality materials for a lasting accessory investment.

As well as his own label, the fashion powerhouse backed two other mega brands, Tory Burch’s shoe line and Jessica Simpson’s fashion and accessory empire. Jessica took to her Instagram account today to mourn the loss of her friend and mentor, posting a picture of them together with the caption, “Thank you, Vince, for the humble power that has taken me everywhere. You are my mentor, my family, the creator of all my dreams. I will forever walk in your shoes…you made them. #brokenheart”

It’s safe to say the shoe and bag mogul will be sorely missed by the fashion world.
