The weekend saw an onslaught of some incredible gowns as the likes of Amber Heard, Dakota Johnson and Alicia Vikander touched down in Venice. With premieres for films including Black Mass, about an infamous Irish-American mobster played by Johnny Depp, as well as Equals, starring Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult and The Danish Girl, there were plenty of red carpet moments for us to savour.
We thought we’d choose just a few of our very favourite looks to share with you, including Diane Kruger’s velvet dream of a frock by Boss and Dakota Johnson in Prada.
Dakota’s blush pink Prada gown was nothing short of triumphant. With strong 90s vibes, the slinky, backless number is one of our favourite frocks yet, and the actress accessorised perfectly with a red lip and simple up-do. Not content with one flawless look, Dakota continued to show off her amazing Venice wardrobe in a sleeveless, printed dress from Rodarte’s AW15 collection, decorated with bright, bold blooms and worn with some Paul Andrew platforms. Dakota also managed to tap into the Victoriana trend that’s so key this season in a Valentino Resort 2016 dress, paired with Jimmy Choo sandals.
Coupled with her new bronde locks and that off-shoulder Marc Jacobs gown and Dakota is fast becoming our favourite red carpet presence…
Remaining loyal to their favourite designers, Kristen Stewart packed her Chanel outfits for the film festival, while Alicia Vikander was, of course, in Louis Vuitton. K-Stew opted for a classic Chanel LBD for a photocall, before changing into a couture look from the AW15 collection. Alicia, meanwhile, wore a LV mini by day and an incredible, custom-made peasant gown for the premiere of The Danish Girl, reminding us exactly why she was selected as the face of the brand.
We also have to mention the couples of Venice Film Festival. Diane Kruger was joined by Joshua Jackson at the premiere for Black Mass, for which she wore a bespoke velvet Boss dress, designed by Jason Wu, and featuring a Bardot neckline and sweeping train. Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were also loved-up on the red carpet, with Amber choosing a ruffled McQueen Resort 2016 gown, and the two couldn’t keep their eyes (or hands) off each other. Eddie Redmayne’s wife, Hannah Bagshawe, also chose McQueen, and the two looked suitably adorable as they walked the red carpet together.
That’s one epic fashion marathon so far, and with just less than a week still to go, it looks like there’ll be plenty more gowns for us to enjoy. Stay tuned.
Venice Film Festival never fails to provide us with plenty of sartorial inspiration, thanks to a whole host of red carpet events and photocalls. This year, jurors include Diane Kruger and Elizabeth Banks, which means we can look forward to some show-stopping gowns; Diane’s wardrobe is the stuff of dreams, while Elizabeth’s love of designers including Versace, Marc Jacobs and Monique Lhuillier make her one of our red carpet faves.
We’ve been getting excited for the annual event for a while, largely thanks to Diane’s Instagram updates. The actress posted a snap of her luggage, all packed and ready to go. “That’s what ten days of jury duty looks like.. Venice I’m on my way!” she wrote alongside the image. We have to say that’s some seriously efficient packing; we’d probably be taking our entire wardrobes with us if we were faced with the prospect of never-ending red carpets.
But Diane didn’t even wait for the first premiere before whipping out a perfect outfit. Arriving in Venice, she was sporting a semi-sheer bodysuit and long, printed skirt, both by Thakoon, paired with a Chanel bag and tan sandals. Completing her look with a straw hat and sunglasses, Diane certainly kicked off proceedings in style.
For her first photocall, Diane chose a Preen mini dress from the Resort 2016 collection. With a delicate floral print and sailor-inspired detail, Diane chose to dress it down with black Chelsea boots, giving us all cause to reach for our own trusty ankle boots. Well, it is September now.
And, if that wasn’t enough (sorry, we promise this Diane Kruger love-in will end soon), Diane floated down the red carpet at the premiere for Everest in an ethereal gown by Prada, before changing into a red Cushnie et Ochs jumpsuit.
We bow down.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Banks had clearly been on a spree at Dolce and Gabbana, opting for a floral jacquard, A-line mini dress (hats off to those Stuart Weitzman applique heels) and, for the premiere, a breathtaking embellished gown by the Italian label.

Just when we thought there couldn’t be anything better than the wardrobes of these two ladies, they proved us wrong by having some BFF moments on the red carpet.
Can we be jurors next year, please?
