How To Wear A Tracksuit (Without Looking Deranged)

The style gods have spoken: the tracksuit is officially cool again. Kendall confirmed the news this weekend when she stepped out wearing a red and beige retro Chloe number costing a cool £2095. That’s an expensive airport outfit if we’ve ever seen one…

Kendall isn’t the only one to work this athelsiure look – the humble tracksuit is having quite the resurgence. Forget the Juicy Couture associations, the tracksuit is the latest piece of sportswear to have a high fashion upgrade. The question is: how does us mere mortals wear this trend without looking completely ridiculous?

Take your tips from these fashionistas for how to wear the tracksuit with style…

1. Look for luxe fabrics

Do not go for the traditional joggy bottom material (and avoid velour with a barge-pole), and alternatively look for more expensive looking fabrics. For an evening get-up a la Rihanna look for high shine material with detaling such as stripes or embroidery. Add pointed stilettos to elevate the tracksuit to evening wear status.

2. Pick an unusual colour

Stay well clear of grey tracksuits, they’ll look too much like you’ve forgotten to get dressed. Instead either pick a punchy bright hue much like Kendall or Riri and make a serious style statement, or take your cue from Gigi and plump for Pinterest’s colour of 2016, blush pink. This may sound obvious but for a put together look make sure your tracksuit top and bottoms are matching colours…

3. Work it into your existing wardrobe

If going the whole hog is daunting why not incorporate the trend by including just one piece into an outfit. We love how this fashion week attendee has paired her classic black and white tracksuit bottoms with a black biker and Gucci loafers – so many trends but somehow it works.
