This Controversial Child Model Is All Grown Up

Back in 2010, a ten-year-old girl caused a furore when she was photographed for an issue of Vogue Paris wearing low-cut dresses, heels and lots of make-up. Reclining on animal skins, the girl arguably looked much older than her ten years, and the photographs were condemned for ‘sexualising’ children. The girl in question was Thylane Blondeau, who is now 14 and seemingly poised to take the world of modelling by storm.

Thylane has just landed a spread in Teen Vogue, in which she reveals she’s been modelling for ten years. Yes, really. Apparently the French model was scouted by Jean Paul Gaultier to walk in one of his shows when she was just four, and she’s since starred in Jalouse, as well as in campaigns for Ralph Lauren and Lacoste. Now, she’s signed to IMG, the agency that also represents Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid, and she already has over 73,000 followers on Instagram

So what does a 14-year-old enjoy about modelling? “My favourite part of the job is meeting new photographers and make-up artists. I love to try on the clothes, too,” says Thylane. If that wasn’t enough, she’s apparently set her sights on a Hollywood career, too, citing Angelina Jolie as her ‘ultimate goal as an actress’ and Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp as her dream co-stars.

Thylane’s favourite people to follow on Instagram? Cara D and Kendall Jenner, of course, as well as other young models like Hailey Baldwin and Lucky Blue Smith. And, she’s even got her own YouTube channel, which includes hair turorials and videos demonstrating her make-up routine. In short, Thylane Blondeau is busier than most adults, and she’s only 14.

But don’t think that negative comments about her age affect her in any way. When Teen Vogue asked how she feels about the response her age has provoked, Thylane said: “Well, Kate Moss started modelling at the age of 15, and that was a while ago. So no, I’m not too young. If you have a good agency and people who take care of you… it’s perfect.”

Given that Thylane has recently been compared to Kate Moss, we have a feeling we’re going to be seeing a lot more of the teen model. Watch this space…
