Taylor Swift might boast the most celebrity-packed phonebook in showbiz, but do you know who doesn’t fancy joining her girl crew? FKA Twigs.
In a new cover interview with Paper Magazine, FKA Twigs strips things back for an incredibly raw shoot.
Taking on a power pose in a black high-rise swimsuit, the 27-year-old is the epitome of strength and glamour.
Opening up about her fanbase, the magazine noted that the artistic star seems to create different relationships with her fans, particularly when compared to Taylor Swift, who is well known for her close-knit girl squad, which her fans clamber to be a part of.
Twigs was quick to respond: ‘I think Taylor Swift is great, but I wouldn’t necessarily think, “Oh my god, I have to be friends with her.”‘
‘When I meet fans, they’re quite creative and intelligent, kind, sensitive. Some are old ladies, witch doctors from Louisiana, kids that have just left art school. Gay or lesbian couples, straight middle-aged couples…’
Another pop songstress who isn’t too fussed about befriending Ms. Swift is Rihanna.
The Bajan beauty was on the cover of NME‘s first free issue, where she stated that she wouldn’t be making a surprise appearance on Taylor’s 1989 tour (along with the rest of the world) any time soon.
‘I don’t think I would’, the 27-year-old singer said. ‘I just don’t think it makes sense.’
‘I don’t think our brands are the same: I don’t think they match, I don’t think our audiences are the same. In my mind she’s a role model, I’m not.’ We can kind of get that.
Taylor was recently officially named ‘Captain of the #GirlSquad’ on her latest cover for Vanity Fair. Donning a white shirt, dark blazer and her signature red lip, T-Swift rocks September’s issue.
We always knew that the Blank Space songstress was the pop queen of celebrity gal pals, so it’s no surprise that Swifty has been honoured with this title.
And in the candid interview with the fashion glossy, Taylor opens up about the importance of girl power amongst her BFFs, which she refers to as the ‘sisterhood.’
It seems that her celebrity gang share the same issues that any other close group of girlfriends face. She admitted: “We even have girls in our group who have dated the same people… It’s almost like the sisterhood has such a higher place on the list of priorities for us. It’s so much more important than some guy that it didn’t work out with.”
The star went on: “Now more than ever we need to be good and kind to each other and not judge each other – and just because you have the same taste in men, we don’t hold that against each other…”
There’s one person who we *never* expected to become one of Taylor’s friends – Kanye West.
The pair famously fell out after Kanye interrupted her acceptance speech for Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards to say that Beyonce should have won.
But thanks to Kanye’s pal Jay Z, they’re now on good terms.
‘I feel like I wasn’t ready to be friends with [Kanye] until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me, and he wasn’t ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me,’ says Taylor.
‘So it was the same issue, and we both reached the same place at the same time.
‘I became friends with Jay Z, and I think it was important, for Jay Z, for Kanye and I to get along… and then Kanye and I both reached a place where he would say really nice things about my music and what I’ve accomplished, and I could ask him how his kid’s doing.’
How cute that Taylor and Kanye have chatted about North West?! We wonder if she’ll be hanging out with Kim Kardashian anytime soon…
From appearing on stage at the singer’s Hyde Park gig to nabbing a starring role in her Bad Blood video, Cara is one of the most trusted members of Taylor’s inner circle.
But it all began in a pretty unexpected location – the Victoria’s Secret show. Taylor performed at the lingerie showcase in both 2013 and 2014, where Cara was modelling.
Now Cara’s revealed exactly how she and Tay-Tay hit it off at the event.
‘Those are never places where I think I’ll go and make friends,’ Cara tells USA Today.
‘We just hung out and she was just so lovely and I kept seeing her around. We always ended up sitting in a corner chatting about life.’
Aw. And it’s pretty obvious why Cara has stuck around, saying: ‘She’s such a nice person. She’s so inspiring. She was someone that I met and I was really surprised by how lovely she was.
‘I met her mum and dad straight away. This girl is wholesome and so sweet.’
Taylor has to be one of the popular ladies in showbiz. We mean, who is she not friends with?!
The 25-year-old’s Instagram account says it all. Between hosting baby showers for Jaime King (and rounding up every cool gal in the ‘biz), inviting Lena Dunham and Gigi Hadid to party with her on stage at her concerts and hosting numerous girls nights in with Ellie Goulding, Selena Gomez and Karlie Kloss, she’s got the busiest social calendar in the business.
And we don’t even need to mention Bad Blood, which saw all of her besties, as well as the likes of Jessica Alba, Cindy Crawford, Hailee Steinfeld and Lily Aldridge all lining up to star in her kickass video.
As well as Cara, model Martha Hunt has explained why everyone loves Swifty so much. ‘She has such an infectious personality,’ she told People.
‘Everyone just wants to be around her at all times. She really brings out the best in everybody.’ Speaking about Taylor’s crew at her amazing star-studded 4th of July party at her mansion by the sea, Martha added:
‘They’re all such great people, like there wasn’t one bad apple. Everyone got along.’
Swifty well and truly sits at the helm of the fiercest celebrity clique in showbiz. And it’s not just Martha who has been gushing about her girl qualities – Lena Dunham and Lorde have waded in too.
‘I feel that Taylor has really taken control and said, “I’m going to get us all together in the same place, I’m gonna make it very clear that friendship is powerful and women are magic and if anybody thinks this is a witches’ coven, they might be right,'” Girls creator Lena told Dazed & Confused.
‘She’s just made it her job in a very cool way.’
Lorde added: ‘Yes! I mean, she definitely brought me into this amazing world of supportive female friendship.’
‘For me, someone starts talking about boys and I’m like, “I just don’t know what to say,'” she continued. ‘I’m useless in that capacity and that was why I thought, “Well, I can’t have girl friends…I don’t know how to talk about boys.” But Taylor just glosses over the fact that I’m terrible at that and she’s just like, ‘It’s OK, I’ll love you for your other qualities.'”
So basically, Swifty took it upon herself to be chief organiser, and the fact that she’s a total sweetheart and girl power ambassador has only made everyone flock to her more.
Now, how can we get in?!
