The Met Gala 2015 is now over, the hangovers have begun, and the biggest and the best gossip of the night is now trickling into our Inboxes. YES.
The major red carpet talking point had to be Rihanna‘s incredible gold robe, that inspired a whole host of hilarious memes to circulate on Twitter. And you won’t believe how long it took to make.
Speaking to Vogue on the Met Gala red carpet later on, designer Guo Pei revealed the painstaking labour that went into her jaw-dropping bright yellow creation.
‘It’s a miracle how it happened actually,’ she said. ‘I saw this beautiful beast on the Internet. I was looking through, you know, researching Chinese couture… It’s handmade by one Chinese woman. It took two years to make this.’
TWO YEARS, PEOPLE. And how did Rihanna react to those many, many memes that transformed her dress into giant pizzas/omelettes/Big Bird? Well, in true Badgalriri style, obv.
The Bajan beauty took it all in egg-celent spirits (sorry), and even got in on the meme game herself, later sharing an Instagram pic of her and her dress coming out of a cracked egg on Instagram and writing: ‘Carrying.’ LOLs.
She even re-grammed a video of a pet pomeranian pooch shrouded in a huge, fuzzy, yellow cloak, while her new song ‘B*tch Better Have My Money’ played in the background, posted by bloggers Cailli and Sam Beckerman.
‘@beckermanblog your dog is next level bruh #metgala2015.’ What a good sport!
In other news, Rihanna reportedly banned banned Rita Ora from her star-studded Met Gala after party, with a source telling The Sun that they ‘can’t stand each other’. Eesh. Who knew there was beef there?
Now onto those that didn’t make it. WHERE was Blake Lively? Well, she shunned the red carpet to pose for multiple photoshoots in New York to promote her new movie The Age Of Adelaine, actually. So there.
Gwyneth Paltrow also explained why she was missing from this year’s Met Gala via a rare Instagram post of her daughter, Apple. ‘This was the red carpet in my house last night’, she wrote next to the snap of her daughter in a blue monster onesie.
We shouldn’t have been surprised by her absence, though. After her last Met Gala appearance in 2013, Gwyneth told USA Today: ‘I’m never going again.’
‘Do you want me to be honest? It sucked,’ she said. ‘You always think, “Oh my god, it’s gonna be so glamorous and amazing and you’re going to see all these people,” and then you get there and it’s so hot and it’s so crowded and everyone’s pushing you.’
Well, each to their own! Could we have Gwynny’s invite instead?
