The Real Reason Behind The Queen’s Colourful Wardrobe

Queen Elizabeth II is one stylish lady. She may have turned 90 last week but Her Majesty is not one to let standards slip in her old age.

You will never see her at a royal engagement with a dud ensemble, and the queen has an elegant outfit formula that she sticks too religiously. Yep, we’re talking about the statement coat, wide brimmed hat, sparkling jewellery combo.

As well as being known for her elegant attire she is also recognised for her love of colour. Only in England would people place bets on the outfit choices of the monarchy at events such as Ascot…

From royal blue to bright teal and fuchsia pink to tangerine orange, she is a big fan of bright hues.

And according to a new documentary there is a real reason you would never catch our Queen in black.

In The Queen at 90 – a new documentary to celebrate the Queen’s special birthday – her daughter-in-law Sophie, Countess of Wessex has revealed the reason the queen sports such a rainbow of colours.

“She needs to stand out for people to be able to say ‘I saw the queen’,” Sophie explained.

“Don’t forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, 10, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the queen’s hat as she went past.”

So there you have it, the Queen’s multi coloured wardrobe is all to help us normal folk spot some royalty. How thoughtful of her, eh?!
