Since debuting her first collection for spring/summer 2013, Sophia Webster has given us cause to resent our own footwear. For since we clapped eyes on her creations, our humble pumps, heels and everything in between just don’t seem to measure up. Having worked as a design assistant for Nicholas Kirkwood, Sophia branched out on her own to present the world with her kitsch, kooky footwear fancies and boy, are we glad she did. We’ll let you in on a little secret: we are crazy for Sophia Webster’s shoes. We’re not talking about a casual crush here, we’re talking head-over-heels, stars-in-our-eyes, total devotion to this queen of irresistible footwear.
We’re in no doubt you feel the same; it would be difficult not to. With that in mind, we have some news to make your heart skip a beat. Following our lead, the high street has also developed a bit of a crush on Sophia’s designs, and as a result has channeled the lady herself. Yup, we’re talking tons of tributes to Sophia’s bold, playful aesthetic, and all on a purse-friendly budget. For starters, Kurt Geiger has enough treats to keep us stocked up for months. Flashes of fuchsia, cut-out details, tassels and pink leopard prints make for one Webster-worthy offering. We’re particularly taken with Miss KG’s lace-up sandals with beaded details and orange and white stitching.
For our flat fix, we’re heading to Asos thanks to its brilliant haul of ombre jelly shoes, striped soles and bejewlled t-bars. There’s even a pair of floral sequin flatforms we reckon Sophia would approve of, not to mention a sugary spectrum of candy colours. As for Topshop, we’ve got our eye on statement print platforms and snake-effect kitten heels, while Boden’s tasseled T-bars in polkadot have charmed the spots off us.
As you can see, these shoes are a huge hit with the A-list style set, with everyone from Blake Lively to Rihanna, Kourtney Kardashian and blogger Ella Catliff regularly rocking theirs. At the most recent Victoria’s Secret show in December last year, all the Angels accessorised their wings with shoes by Sophia (and some by her former mentor, Nicholas Kirkwood), while the designer has also formed collaborations with J Crew and faux fur maestro, Shrimps. It looks as though Sophia is set for world domination.
Well, we certainly won’t stand in her way. Providing us with endless style inspo, not to mention making feet all over the world look that bit prettier, it’s fair to say our love for Sophia Webster knows no bounds. And thanks to the high street’s distinct Sophia-vibes this season, it looks like our crush is only set to get even bigger…
