As much as we love a good bargain, sometimes it’s nice to really splash out on a proper investment piece and for this, we turn to the higher end of our Great British High Street. So here’s the lowdown on our fave high-end high-street brands who really spruce up our otherwise thrifty wardrobes.
One of the most luxe brands on the high street, Whistles’ collections always feature right at the top of our wish-lists. After Jane Shepherdson totally revived the brand back in 2008, there has been no stopping the store in delivering fashion-forward and great quality pieces that make us swoon as soon as we walk in. Although you can pay up to £1,500 for a sheepskin coat, some of the pieces are really reasonably priced and will last you for years.
Right now, we are totally loving this frayed denim jacket which would be a key investment for the transitional period – wear over a floaty dress when it’s hot or pair with a clashing hued pair of jeans to really make a statement! We’re also crushing on this gorgeous painterly print dress which would be an occassion staple. Perfect for weddings, parties and proms, this dress will see you through countless events.
For the last few seasons, Boden have been responsible for creating the ultimate ‘It’ shoe (everyone in the LOOK office was after a pair of those jewelled wonders pre-Christmas.) And this spring, it’s already been all about these lovely lace-up heels which come in numerous colours and prints. We have these spotty guys in our sights. And if you’re after some flatties, then start saving for these fashion editor favourites. Prettier than words can describe, these may have to be our payday purchase!
PS. It’s not all about shoes, there’s some pretty snazzy clothes too so check out everything they have on offer.
Totally classic with a reputation for trademark shapes and styles, AllSaints is our go-to for splurging on a gorgeous leather jacket. From black to charcoal grey, your perfect transitional piece is waiting for you. If you fancy something a little different, check out this stunning rust-hued jacket for an injection of colour! We’re also totally crazy about this gorgeous trench, which we would literally wear with everything, forever.
For ah-mazing officewear, Reiss should be your first port of call. From classic tailored pieces with a twist to totally wedding guest-worthy outfits, add Reiss to your list of brands worth the money. This candy striped shirt is definitely a must-have this season – wear with tailored trousers for smarter occassions or under your denim dungarees for a little twist. And this lace skirt is a dream piece for your wardrobe that will take you from the office and onto a much more fancy do!
Russell & Bromley
THE DREAM for great quality shoes that will never date. Often bringing back the same styles season after season (with a little update), you know you’re not just cashing in on a passing trend. We’ve had our eye on these lovely loafers for a while now – they will make any outfit look super expensive and the leather and suede mash-up is totally lust-worthy. Or do we need the lace-ups more?! Ahh – how long until Christmas?
Grown up sure, and brimming with basics that will last you a lifetime, but Hobbs is also one for statement pieces that will have you raking in the compliments. Take their amazing floral injection this season which looks totally designer, e.g. this cherry bossom top which will set off a pair of jeans expertly! And cast your eyes on this fantastic leather tote – certainly an investment you won’t regret.
Great for occassionwear, Karen Millen is also a go-to for good quality basics with a twist. Always adding a touch of something a little different to their designs, the brand is a no brainer if you want to make a subtle statement. This season we are loving their prints – check out this stunning wrap skirt which would look amazing with a simple white tee. These combat trousers are also a winner.
Our go-to for party shoes and perfect bags, Kurt Geiger is rarely off our radar. At the moment we are lusting after these stunning court shoes which come in every colour you could dream and have been worn by many an A-lister. And their flats aren’t too shabby either – pair these with jeans now and bare legs in the summer (the bright pink will look great with a tan!)
