We’ve been a bit obsessed with Sienna Miller’s galactic print outfit since the beginning of the week, and now Carey Mulligan has only added fuel to our sartorial fire. Nominated for a Tony award for Best Actress (she starred alongside Bill Nighy in Skylight), Carey followed Sienna’s lead in a piece from Vionnet’s Pre-Fall collection.
We should have seen this coming, really. Stella McCartney’s kooky alien motif practically went viral last season, with everyone from Cara Delevingne to her sister, Poppy, wearing the UFO print, and now Vionnet has cemented the trend. And, while the high street’s own haul is limited at the moment, we know it’s only a matter of time before these otherworldly patterns create their own supernova.
We also wouldn’t be surprised if more A-list ladies don Vionnet’s Pre collection any time soon. Since creative director Goga Ashkenazi took charge in 2012, we’ve seen the likes of (deep breath) Anna Kendrick, Rosamund Pike, Olivia Palermo, Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria, Selena Gomez, Margot Robbie, Blake Lively and Anne Hathaway all repping the label, founded by Madeleine Vionnet in 1912. In fact, Madame Vionnet became famous for her use of draping on Grecian-style dresses as well as cutting her garments on the bias, an incredibly flattering technique.
For 2015, fashion house’s signature, fluid silhouettes and delicate pleating were all in place, and we’ll most definitely be taking some outfit inspo from the collection. Maxi skirt with cropped, tailored jacket? It’s already our new summer style formula. And of course, we’re most definitely lusting over the starry prints, and will be keeping our eyes peeled for a space invasion on the high street.
In the meantime, we managed to unearth some intergalactic frocks to satisfy the Vionnet cravings for now, and from just £9.99 to boot. That’s one bargain space mission.
