How to Shop Black Friday Like An Editor

Not to instill panic or anything, but it’s only the BIGGEST SHOPPING WEEKEND OF THE ENTIRE YEAR. That’s right, Black Friday will soon be upon us (followed closely by Cyber Monday) and the bargains will be booming. Out-smart everyone else with our definitive survival guide.

Be Prepared

Yes, that is a direct quote from Scar in The Lion King. It’s also invaluable advice when it comes to conquering Black Friday. If you’re shopping online (hello Cyber Monday), we’d suggest logging on the day before and adding the items you’ve got your eye on to your virtual basket. A lot of brands- Amazon, John Lewis and M&S, for example- save any items you have added, so you can go straight to pay when the sales hit. If you haven’t quite made up your mind, many other sites have a wishlist feature, meaning you can save any pieces that take your fancy. Shopping IRL? Make a list of things you want/need in advance, so you have a game plan.

Say Hello To H20

Shopping can be exhausting. It’s important, therefore, to stock up on essentials before you go. We won’t lie to you: Black Friday will be carnage out there. There will be no time for civilized behaviour like, say, stopping for a snack or a coffee. To stave off hunger/fatigue, keep refreshments in your handbag. You can do this.

Avoid Return Rage

Don’t be that guy who ends up with 14 pairs of sequined leggings and a lace balaclava; check out the return policies before you buy. Most brands won’t change their rules just for the weekend, so maybe have a look at the small print before you shop.

Know Your Deals

Most brands don’t like to give away all their secrets ahead of sale time, but we’ll be bringing you exclusive info from some of our fave high street hot spots next week. From River Island, Schuh and Dorothy Perkins to Topshop, ASOS and Harvey Nichols, there are all sorts of shops taking part- and we’ll have the 411 on what sort of deals you might expect. Keep your eyes peeled…
