Not just for punks and rock stars, last season it was all about the ear cuff but now the septum and the lip piercing have taken over as queens of the jewellery scene! With the likes of Cara, Rihanna, FKA Twigs and Paloma Faith jumping on the trend wagon, it’s certainly earned the A-list seal of style approval – and ours too!
Cara has been spotted out wearing a lip ring a few times; initially rocking it at the Women in the World London Summit, at first she had us guessing whether or not the new addition was in fact the real deal. Last night at the Chanel Exhibition Party, Cara was out sporting the bad girl chic accessory once again, It turns out however that the pretty piercing is a fake lip cuff from Established Jewelry. if you don’t fancy spending a shed load, you can also grab some fake lip rings at Claire’s, £8 for a pack of 3.
And while Cara’s bringing back the lip ring, plenty of other A-listers are taking to the septum piercing. Not a completely newbie trend the fashionable face jewels surfaced on the Givenchy AW13 catwalk – when designer Ricardo Tisci sent models down the runway with intricately designed, oversized rings between their nostrils. And he revived them for the his AW15 catwalk again in Paris, this time around going a step further and be-jewelling each models face all over with faux piercings.
The statement-making piercing has been gathering more and more momentum recently and while Rihanna favours the more extreme variety, not dissimilar to Givenchy’s offerings, FKA Twigs takes the more subtle approach with a simple single ring style that’s way more wearable and a little less goth.
We can’t help but give props to Jessica Biel, too, for showing us how to give the punky piercing a sophisticated spin, sporting a tiny gold clip on ring as part of her 2013 Met Gala get-up – proving anyone can work the trend for any event.
Fancy taking the gutsy trend for a spin without the commitment? Try the look – pain free – with a clip-on version. We’ve scouted a couple on the high street that are every inch as edgy as the real thing, to help you test drive the trend.
We’ll be styling ours a la Gaga with a statement choker.
