Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has finally got a release date and from a peek at the first trailer it looks pretty exciting. The eagerly anticipated mashup of the Jane Austen classic will be hitting screens in February 2016 and we’ve got all the info you need to know…
The film is based on a novel of the same name
The crazy idea to combine an Austen period drama with zombies was one dreamed up by Quirk Books. The parody novel penned by Seth Grahame-Smith brings together the 1813 novel with elements of modern zombie fiction, and Grahame-Smith even credits Austen as his co-author.
It’s Pride and Prejudice but not as you know it
Set in 19th century England, the film still focuses on the much-loved characters from the original novel but this time amidst a zombie outbreak. The feisty Elizabeth Bennet is a master of martial arts and weaponry and the handsome Mr. Darcy is a fierce zombie killer.
Lily James plays the leading role
Having found fame for her role as the rebellious Lady Rose in Downton Abbey, James is more than qualified to play a period part. Also starring as the title role in the 2015 Disney film Cinderella, James takes on the role of the iconic character of Elizabeth Bennet. Natalie Portman was reportedly initially supposed to play the heroine but the casting line-up changed with the switch of directors. Speaking about her role, James said, “Rather than knitting and crocheting, they’re polishing muskets.” With the star adding that Elizabeth is “the most badass zombie slayer there is.”
There’s a stellar line of male actors on board
There’s a trio of good-looking fellas joining the cast. The very important part of Mr Darcy has gone to Sam Riley – we think the Burberry model and star of Maleficent is a perfect match. Joining Riley is Doctor Who favourite Matt Smith who will take on the role of Mr. Collins, and Douglas Booth will play Mr. Bingley.
Suki Waterhouse stars
Following in BFF Cara’s footsteps, Suki is also pursuing the heady heights of Hollywood by embarking on a career in acting. Cast as Kitty Bennet in the film, Suki’s role as Elizabeth’s older sister and sidekick will see the model working closely with Lily James. 2016 looks like it may well be Suki’s year when it comes to acting as she is also set to star in The Bad Batch with Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey. We can’t wait to see one of our fave models on the big screen.
The costumes look pretty epic
From a look at the trailer it appears that period costumes and zombie makeup are a recipe for one pretty spectacular show. Enough said.
