There’s no doubt about it – Oscar de la Renta made some of the most beautiful dresses ever to grace the catwalk. Celebrities flocked to him to create special creations for the red carpet and just as many women turned to his brand for bridal dresses too. Since his passing, former Nina Ricci designer Peter Copping has taken the reigns as creative director and, after much anticipation, his first custom-made bridal creation has been revealed.
Following his debut bridal collection unveiled back in April, Copping’s first bride is Haifa Snobar, a public relations executive for the New York-based label’s Middle Eastern division based in Saudi Arabia. Covered in intricate hand-cut floral petals made from taffeta and organza, his stunning creation took a whopping 30 people to make and took over 1,500 hours to complete.
The dress features a beautiful sheer neckline as nod to Arabic tradition, where the groom presents his bride with a necklace during the ceremony.
“I think it’s important for brides to feel comfortable in their dress,” he told the magazine. “So we went for something delicate and light.” Don’t be fooled though – in true Oscar de la Renta fashion, the dress was full on glamour and it’s just as well, as the pair tied the knot in the decadent Château de Voisins, a turn-off-the-century mansion just outside Paris.
To say the pressure was on for Copping would be a serious understatement. The late designer’s last bridal creation was the stunning off-the-shoulder gown Amal Clooney wore to wed hubby George. But if Copping’s first outing is anything to go by, he has absolutely nothing to worry about. The standard has well and truly been set…
