Having just put on yet another flawless spectacle for his SS16 show and the launch of his Balmain x H&M collaboration right around the corner, it’s pretty clear that designer Olivier Rousteing has not been short of inspiration lately. But while he has many a Balmain army recruit to choose from (Kendall, Gigi, Jourdan, Lottie Moss and Lily Donaldson to name a few), there’s one woman in particular that Olivier Rousteing looks to for inspiration: Kim Kardashian.
As guest editor for the month of October, Rousteing wrote in his first piece for CNN Style: “I choose muses that are actually really different and modern – I chose them because they are contemporary, they are part of this new world.”
“For example, Kim Kardashian. She’s my friend, she’s a woman that I love for different reasons.”
Surprised? Us neither. Mrs. Kardashian West has long been a fan of the luxury fashion house (we can hardly keep count of the times she has stepped out wearing Balmain while she’s also starred alongside Kanye in a campaign for the brand), and her personal relationship with Rousteing himself has also gone from strength to strength. On top of all that, her role as a strong-willed, career-minded woman has helped earn her the much-coveted status as Balmain’s muse.
“First, I think she’s powerful,” Rousteing added. “She’s representing the new world and she represents the new family: Kim, Kanye, North.”
“I also think she’s pushing boundaries when it comes to the female form. I love dressing her, she’s a different body type to the models on my catwalk. I love to see different body shapes, different girls, different personalities and different backgrounds – she’s part of my world.”
With that in mind, we can’t see what the duo will do next..
