Olivia Palermo really surprised us with her outfit choice for the New York City Ballet 2015 Spring Gala last night. But in a seriously good way.
The 29-year-old style icon knows how to mix it up in the wardrobe department, working everything from denim shirts, pencil skirts and sleeveless jackets to preppy and polished smock dresses.
But we’ve never seen her in anything like this. Olivia’s vintage-inspired empire line chiffon Valentino dress was the stuff of Jane Austen dreams, and was a totally different direction for the socialite.
While the detailed floral gown hid her tiny frame, the long sheer sleeves and pretty ornate neckline gave Olivia a gorgeous regal elegance – and that long, pretty french braid running down her back was the perfect delicate hairstyle for it.
Palermo’s garden-themed gown was not dissimilar to Keira Knightley’s stunning Valentino Couture dress from the 2015 Oscars, which she wore while pregnant. But Olivia proves you don’t have to be with bump to pull off this old-fashioned style.
She also opted for a fresh-faced makeup look, with just a touch of glowy highlighter, a flick of liquid eyeliner on the top lid and a rosy, glossy lip.
In a recent interview with Marie Claire, the former The City star admitted that she actually does all of her own makeup.
‘I do my own make up, but listen to the experts when it comes to things like getting your foundation colour right and knowing what your skin needs in different seasons’, she said.
Well, there’s no denying she’s a dab hand with that foundation brush.
After the swanky ballet event, Olivia Instagrammed a photo of her with Mr Valentino himself and designer Giancarlo Giammetti.
‘The three perfect dates for the evening! Thank you @realmrvalentino @privategg #theluckiestgirl @maisonvalentino Thank you @carlossouza1311 for your fab photo skills tonight #newyorkcityballet we missed you both @johanneshuebl @charleneshorto.’
