Danielle Brooks Makes A Statement About Gym Etiquette

Orange Is The New Black star Danielle Brooks, aka Taystee Jefferson, has raised a very important question. How do you feel about wearing just a sports bra at the gym?

The 25-year-old actress has already been busy waving the flag for body confidence, taking part in the inspiring #LoveYourShape campaign from earlier this year.

And now, Danielle is tackling the issue again by encouraging people to feel less self-conscious at the gym, and to have the confidence to bare their bods. Because why not?

The OITNB star kicked off with an image of herself at the gym looking hawt in patterned leggings and a neon pink and black sports bra. But it was the message that accompanied it that really got us thinking.

She wrote: ‘Hey lovers, Today I decided to do something I’ve never done before: Go to the gym with my SHIRT OFF!! I thought I’d share why this is significant for me.’

‘I’ve always wanted to do this but have felt shameful and have told myself “until my body is perfect I’m forbidden.” Today my inner being told me to turn up the notch on my self-love. I should not be ashamed of my body. I’m not a walking imperfection! I’m a Goddess.’

Amen, honey! And it got better.

‘Secondly, I’m a confident woman!’ she continued. ‘That doesn’t stop once I take off my spanx. Lol Sometimes it’s a struggle. Sometimes I don’t like what I see, but I have the power to change the way in which I relate to my body both physically and mentally.’

‘Today I woke up feeling beautiful and motivated to love myself and take care of the ONE body that I’ve been given. I’m not saying World take your shirt off, twist it round your head, spin it like a helicopter, (lol) I’m saying everyone live in your confidence. One Life. One Body. Take Care of It.’

Danielle then ended with some of the best hashtags we’ve ever witnessed. ‘#Voiceofthecurves #yesmythighstouch #lovethyself #beautyinandout #goddess #imabadshutyomouth #ivebeeneatingmygreens #thickathanasnika’, she wrote. Oh, how we love her.

We can’t count the number of times we’ve been pounding away on the treadmill feeling unbelievably hot and sweaty and just wishing we could whip off our vests and tees and give our tummies an airing. But oh no, we couldn’t possibly – what if somebody saw our wobbly bits?!

It’s daunting to flash that belly button amongst the perfectly toned gym buffs if you’ve got hang-ups (and who doesn’t?)

But thanks to Danielle, we’re going to reconsider. Because we could all do with a bit of Taystee’s sassy confidence, couldn’t we…
