Nasty Gal is having a major moment and its founder, 30-year-old Sophia Amoruso, is officially the talk of fashion town.
Now with her autobiography, #Girlboss, about to hit the bookshelves next week, Sophia – one of Los Angeles’ most stylish socialites – still can’t believe it was only seven years ago that she first had the idea to set up Nasty Gal.
When Sophia took an office job so that she could get free medical insurance, she found herself with lots of free time in the office. “I had plenty of time to blow [at work], and I was on Myspace getting friend requests from Ebay sellers who were selling their vintage. Their auctions were going crazy. I thought, “Hey, I could do that!”
Nasty Gal is now worth over £70million and has over 100 million customers. Sophia is surrounded by celebrity friends wherever she goes, like DJ Mia Moretti and model Alexandra Richards who she’s pictured with above. (Sophia wears the black midi dress).
But her life hasn’t always been so straightforward – or successful.”I didn’t come from money or prestigious schools, and I didn’t have adults telling me what to do along the way.”
“I’m am telling you my story to remind you that the straight and narrow is not the only path to success. I didn’t find Nasty Gal. I created it. Be your own idol.”
Read all about Sophia’s life in this week’s issue of Look Magazine, on the shelves now.
#Girlboss is out on 29 May.
