If you’ve been keeping on top of the catwalk rounds this month, you’ll probably recognise this face. Yep, having walked for more Italian fashion houses than we can keep count of, 19-year-old Ruth Bell’s platinum buzz cut and piercing blue eyes have become somewhat of a regular on the runway.
But that’s not all. Kentish born and bred Ruth has in fact been modelling since 2013 alongside her twin sister, May, after the pair were discovered in a shopping centre and competed in Elite’s Model Look contest.
Since, the beautiful Bell’s have been tapped as the faces of Topshop’s Summer of Love campaign, Urban Outfitters newest Collective and Lazy Oaf’s Winter lookbook, and Ruth alone has graced the pages of LOVE magazine, Vogue Paris and Dazed & Confused.
Arguably Ruth’s most pivotal career moment to date, however, has to be her Alexander McQueen campaign. Shot by revered fashion photog David Sims, she received warning two days prior that she may be subject to a dramatic hair change by stylist Paul Hanlon.
And that, along with one massive career boost, was exactly what she got: “Shaving my head has got me more diverse work and it has made me work non-stop, which is tiring but awesome! It’s also allowed me to work with people and designers who I never thought would work with me.” Indeed, the rest is history.
Versace, Gucci, Etro, Blumarine, Pucci and Max Mara were all quick to recruit Ruth as the leading lady of their spring summer Milan shows, while her edgy new do made her the ideal choice for the moody aesthetic of Saint Laurent’s Cruise 2016 campaign. Add to that her doll-like features, striking bone structure and achingly cool demeanour and what you get is one very happy Hedi Slimane.
All things considered, Bell is primed for a Paris Fashion Week to match her huge Milan success, but there’s just one thing on her mind: “Sleep.. I never get to do it when I’m working during this crazy fashion month!”
