We couldn’t wait to see the designer’s latest range for the high street brand, which marks a year since she launched her very first Lipsy collection. And we weren’t disappointed.
Dropping by the ME hotel in London to catch up with Michelle and drool over her new drop, we were greeted with a gorgeous array of faux fur trim coats, elegant evening dresses and cosy roll-neck knits.
There’s also a cool ’70s vibe to the former Coronation Street star’s new range, with flared jeans and ruffled blouses featuring heavily. Love.
When we met, Michelle was working one of her favourite designs from the range – a strapless black dress with an amazing fringed hem that would be the perfect dancefloor showstopper. Swoon.
See what the lady herself had to say about her lovely designs…
Hi Michelle! Tell us about your new collection…
My new collection for Lipsy involves a massive nod to the 70s – a trend that’s continued on from SS15 and was all over the AW15 catwalks. The collection has a feminine edge using ruffles and bandeau detailing without being too revealing. I never wear anything too short or low cut so wouldn’t want this to feature in my designs.
Did you take any inspiration from the catwalks?
Absolutely. The biggest trend for me throughout the AW15 collections was the ’70s trend, so I’ve incorporated this within my collection using detailing such as Bardot necklines and flared jeans.
What’s your favourite piece?
My standout piece is the black fringed LBD I have on now. Everyone needs an LBD in their wardrobe, but I feel this one has the edge – the fringing and mesh detail give it a little something extra.
Does Mark ever influence what you wear?
Mark and I both always ask each other what we think of our outfits but that doesn’t mean to say I’ll always go with what he thinks. For example, he hates flares and doesn’t really get them, but I wore my Lipsy ones earlier today, I love them!
Is there anything in particular that he loves you in?
Mark’s really into my Lipsy collection and loves it when I wear the dresses I’ve designed. He often sends me pictures when he spots someone out and about in one of my styles, it’s really cute!
You looked amazing on your hen party in Dubai – what bikini brands were you working?
I wore a white strap bikini from the Lipsy high-summer range as well as a leopard print kaftan from my Lipsy range which was the perfect beach cover up!
What would you NEVER wear by the pool or on the beach?
A thong! I don’t know why anyone would!
If you could design a dream shoe, what would it look like?
I think it would most likely be a wedge so it’s easy to walk in!
