New York Fashion Week kicks off on 12th February and there’s only one lady were looking to for wardrobe inspiration…
If you don’t know the name Amina Muaddi, it’s about time you did. Owner of one wow-wardrobe and now a celeb-loved shoe designer, she’s currently captivating the fashion world from all angles. A street-style regular, Jordan-born Amina is swiftly becoming our go-to for serious style inspo. Whether working co-ord stripes, oversized culottes or a ballet bun and shades, Amina never fails to catch our eye when she hits the New York Fashion Week shows. “My style is minimal with a hint of retro, and a little bit gangster”, she says, and it’s this mix that means it’s a rare moment when she isn’t surrounded by street-style paps. So which trends will she be rocking for the upcoming shows? “Hmm… more utilitarian than hippy. Military hues, white, denim, patent and latex – lots of leather. Probably shearling, as it’s still going to be cold, and some babydoll dresses.” She tells us she can’t wait to hit the FROW’s and showcase her new collection. “I’m looking forward to see my friends and collaborators and the collections from my favourite designers. Also a little post-show partying never hurt anyone!”
Between hanging out with Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing and hitting NYFW, Amina’s found time to start her own awesome shoe brand, Oscar Tiye, after a long-time obsession with fancy footwear. “As I grew up, whenever I wanted to reward myself, I would splurge on shoes”, she reveals. “That special feeling that shoes give us—it’s unique. We all want to feel like we can’t live without that certain pair of shoes.
The designs have already bagged Anna Wintour’s seal of approval, and with fellow street-style stars Giovanna Battaglia and Aimee Song rocking them on the FROW, it’s clear that Oscar Tiye is the fash pack shoe to be seen in. The celebs have taken notice too. Counting Hollywood’s hottest Zoe Saldana, Heidi Klum and Hailey Steinfeld as just a few of her fan, it’s official: Amina Muaddi is fashion’s best kept secret. As for her dream customer? “I would literally fill pages answering this question! There are so many amazing women I’d love to see in my shoes. But to tell you one, I would love to see Queen Rania of Jordan wearing Oscar Tiye.”
Her designs are chic, sexy and best of all, fun. Think Sophia Webster meets Manolo Blahnik and you’re somewhere close – her signature Malikah sandals with ankle-hugging Pegasus wings are a firm celeb fave – and prices start around the £500 mark. Amina’s shoe mantra is all about making a statement while keeping it classic, something we, and the high street, can seriously get on board with. In fact, from chic pointed ankle strap heels to minimalist gold stilettos, there’s already plenty of affordable tributes are making our style inspo a reality.
Where Louboutin has his signature red soles, Ms Muaddi’s finishing touch is a gold scarab beetle adorning the bottom of each pair of shoes for good luck. But with her effortless style, fast-growing celeb fan base and exciting designer collaborations in the pipeline, we’re pretty sure she’s not going to need it.
