It has officially happened! Lauren Conrad is a New York Fashion Week designer. Last night, the ex reality star took her very first collection down a New York catwalk – and we totally loved it.
Transporting us into the seriously pretty wonderland that she had promised to, the collection was all vintage-looking lace, emboirdered flowers and beautiful tulle skirts.
The former reality star announced on her Instagram page that she would be debuting a limited edition collection this September. We’d say she’s come a long way since her intern days at Teen Vogue wouldn’t you?
The designer’s vintage-inspired range – which is sold at US department store Kohls – is seriously affordable with top prices reaching just over £120 and what’s more, fans were able to snap up the range immediately after it was shown rather than waiting until spring.
“It’s straight off the streets of New York…into this wonderland,” Lauren said about the new collection which was live streamed as it happened last night. As well as that, fans also got a glimpse of the backstage action too.
“To see what’s happening backstage, see who’s wearing what and catch exclusive celebrity interviews as Lauren and a few of her friends share their firsthand experiences using Periscope,” Kohls explained.
Now that all sounds alot like an episode of The Hills to us…
This isn’t the first fashion show for Lauren Conrad though – and no we’re not talking about that charity one she organised on Laguna Beach when Jason did the unthinkable – she actually showed a collection at Los Angeles Fashion Week in 2008 where Whitney, Lo, Brody and even Stephen Colletti sat front row.
Lauren wasn’t the only one to announce very exciting NYFW news either.
In slightly more surprising news, Joshua Ostrovsky – who you will most likely know as The Fat Jewish – will also be showing a collection during fashion month. On September 16th, the comedian and Instagram sensation will debut the Dad Fashion Show at MADE Studios (who by the way have put on shows for the likes of Alexander Wang).
The Fat Jewish describes the range as “an eclectic collection of apparel”, while the co-founder of MADE Fashion Week has said:
“Josh has always been a visionary and that is something we welcome into the MADE family. I think the establishment would agree: his keen eye, ability to identify trends and the high probability of that he has fathered a yet-to-be identified child has always kept him at the forefront of culture.”
Last but not least, we’ve just received confirmation that American singer and songwriter Carrie Underwood will be showing her Calia by Carrie activewear line at New York Fashion Week!
The “activation” (a hands-on presentation) will be taking place on September 10th at the NYFW HQ, where the pieces will be shoppable immediately.
Carrie told WWD: “I’ve been a spectator at Fashion Week a few times, but this is the first time I’ll be involved.” And we can’t wait!
With all these changes, we’re not quite sure what to expect, but we reckon this New York Fashion Week is set to be a goodun.
