We all know that Kim Kardashian has evolved into quite the stylista over the past few years.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians lady has fronted US Vogue, become friendly with Anna Wintour and regularly sits FROW-side at huge fashion shows.
But she credits one very special person for her transformation – her husband Kanye West.
‘Before my husband and I started dating, he brought me [former Vogue Paris editor] Carine Roitfeld’s coffee table book and was like: “You should be studying this book, this is like the fashion bible,”‘ Kim tells CNN.
‘And I was like: “Who is Carine?” I knew nothing. And he said: “Watch, one day she’s going to style you.”
‘Kanye sees what’s out there on the streets and just knows how to translate that into something that would look good on me. Just helping me push my limits a little bit and trying new things.’
We’ve already seen Kanye go through Kim’s closet on KUWTK, getting her to throw out pieces that he doesn’t approve of.
Now she’s swapped her heavy accessorising and bright coloured outfits for sharp cuts, muted colours and chic haircuts.
But the 34-year-old doesn’t regret this one bit, continuing: ‘I mean, back in the day I thought I had the best style. I look back at outfits and I’m, like, mortified.
‘You know I loved colour before, and I still do in moderation, but I think black really does look good on everybody. I think it’s really chic and slimming and sleek.’
However, Kim does think there’s a more important message stemming from her inclusion on so many FROWs.
Afte Gigi Hadid shared an inspiring Twitter message about not being a ‘traditional model’, earlier this week, Kim has also opened up about her own curves.
She says she felt ‘grateful’ to Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci for being the first luxury designer willing to dress her.
‘My body type is not your typical model body type,’ she says.
‘It’s exciting that I feel that designers are seeing different body shapes and styles and willing to take that risk.’
We totally agree.
