Kendall Jenner And Gigi Hadid Swap Hair At Balmain

Olivier Rousteing doesn’t really do subtlety. In fact, he does exactly the opposite, and he has amassed a legion of avid followers around the world because of it. From the skin-tight, heavily embellished dresses that have become Kim Kardashian’s almost-daily wardrobe to the high-octane glamour he brings to the catwalk in the form of his supermodel army, less is certainly not more for this designer.

True to form, AW16’s show was suitably jam packed with famous faces (on and off the runway) and enough sex appeal to make you blush. Firstly though, we’ve got to talk about the hair.

BFFs Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are no strangers to the Balmain army, but we almost didn’t recognise them as they appeared on the catwalk. The two had swapped hair for the occasion, with Kendall sporting newly blonde locks and Gigi going brunette. Hair stylist Sam McKnight prepared all the wigs for the show, telling Vogue: “Olivier wanted to transform some girls with hair colour, so we did Kendall, Karlie and Alessandra as blondes, and Gigi, Lily and Rosie dark. All their opposite colours. We spent 10 hours prepping and cutting wigs…!”

> Jourdan Dunn, Lily Donaldson and Karlie Kloss all walked for Balmain AW16

We know that Olivier likes to spark a social media frenzy and aside from Kanye in an embellished jacket on the FROW with Kris Jenner, the hair swaps proved to be one of the biggest talking points of the show. See your Insta feed for proof.

Oh, apart from the clothes that is. Kendall’s first look was top-to-toe dove grey; all corsetry, feathers and suede. In fact, corsets were the order of the day as the models sported various incarnations on everyone from Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls to Alessandra Ambrosio and Lily Donaldson. The silhouette was long and lean, but there was also an emphasis on the hourglass shape that’s practically synonymous with Rousteing’s favourite family. You know who we mean.

Lace, ruffles, sheer tops, super-short skirts, over-the-knee boots, suede, fur, tassels, fringing, embroidery and velvet all marched down the catwalk as an orchestra played the soundtrack.

Balmain certainly doesn’t do things by halves.

As for those wigs, it looks like Kendall and Gigi were pretty pleased with their new looks. They were spotted leaving the show stil wearing them. Will Kendall be the next member of the Kardashian Klan to reach for the dye? Watch this space.
