Why Johnny Depp Used To “Torture” Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio was once a mere mortal living a life just like us. Yep, we hate to break it to you ladies, but Leo hasn’t always been the Hollywood heartthrob that he is nowadays. In fact, during the 31st annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Johnny Depp so kindly took it upon himself to reveal that he even used to “torture” the then-fledgling actor.

We KNOW. How could anyone “torture” that beautiful face?!

Johnny was actually picking up the Maltin Modern Master Award for his contributions to film at the time, before he began discussing what it was like to work on the set of What’s Eating Gilbert Grape with Leo.

“It was a hard time for me, that film, for some reason. I don’t know why,” he said.

Speaking of his relationship with Leo, he added: “I tortured him. I really did.”

“He was always talking about these video games, you know? I told you it was kind of a dark period. No, I will not give you a drag of my cigarette while you hide from your mother again, Leo.”

But before you start drafting up a rehabilitation plan for Leo whereby you’ll both fall madly in love and elope to an exotic island, Johnny went on to shower the actor with praise for his hard work.

“I’d say the absolute truth is that I respect Leo a lot.

“He worked really hard on that film and spent a lot of time researching. He came to set and he was ready to work hard and all his ducks were in a row.”

N’aww, and look where it got him today.

Just in case you need any more reason to swoon over Leonardo, this weekend also saw the unearthing of one totally ADORABLE snap of him aged six. Brace yourselves…
