Will Michelle Keegan Be The New Doctor Who Assistant?

It’s the end of an era for Jenna Coleman, who is expected to leave BBC’s Doctor Who later this year. Naww.

The 29-year-old actress is thought to be moving on to pastures new after bagging a lead role in upcoming ITV drama, Queen Victoria.

Bets are already being taken on who’ll replace her on the show, with Michelle Keegan becoming an early favourite at 9/2.

‘Since Jenna Coleman announced her emotional exit this we have seen a lot of interest for Michelle Keegan to jump aboard the tardis,’ says Betfair’s Cormac Dowling.

The rumours came about when Jenna gave an interview to The Radio Times last week, in which she said she had always known her stint on the show wouldn’t last forever.

‘You’re in Doctor Who knowing it will never last,’ she said. ‘It’s constantly regenerating, so you want to make your time count and enjoy the adventure for the fleeting time you’re here.’

Coleman has been playing Clara Oswald since 2012, first starring alongside Matt Smith, and then Peter Capaldi, so she’s had a fair run on the hugely popular TV show. And while the BBC are refusing to confirm her departure, we’re pretty sure this is happening.

At least fans can take solace in the fact that they can still see Jenna in the new Doctor Who series, which kicks off this Saturday on BBC1 after filming wrapped earlier this year.

So what’s this new project she’s working on?

Well, the actress, (who is dating Game Of Thrones star Richard Madden), will play the young Queen Victoria herself in the highly ancipated eight-part series about her life.

And if you liked Poldark, then you’ll love this – it’s made by the same producer, and has been created and written by novelist Daisy Goodwin.

While we may be losing Jenna to one of our favourite shows, we have a feeling she’s going to give us another to get obsessed with. Because, girl’s got taste.
