Everyone likes a little pat of the back from time to time, but to have a hip-hop legend pen an entire track in adoration to you? We’re not sure there is a higher seal of approval.
Razor sharp US fashion designer (film director and all-round charismatic chap) Tom Ford received just this accolade from one of his biggest customers – music mogul Jay-Z.
The track entitled ‘Tom Ford’ features on the new album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’, and pays homage to Ford with multiple reference to his name including the line “I don’t pop Molly, I rock Tom Ford” (Molly refers to the illegal drug ecstasy).
Fords reaction to Jay-Z getting ‘high’ off this tailoring? Well, he was thrilled!
“Who would not be flattered to have an entire Jay-Z track named after them? I mean, come on, it’s pretty rare that something like that happens.”
“It’s a kind of validation of one’s work, as it means that one has really penetrated and made an impact on popular culture”.
Admittedly, hip-hop artists have been throwing luxe labels into their lyrics for years but this latest entry appears far less of an attempt at kudos and more of a personal complement, putting Ford in a league of this own. Fashion rocks? More like fashion Hip-hops!
