When thinking of this trend, it’s important to remember Pamela Anderson. Because no one made the super sexy high leg swimsuit more famous than the blonde Baywatch beauty back in the 1990s.
And now, it’s back. Celebrities have suddenly swapped side-boob for the side-bum, and it’s a whole load of racy.
The beauty of rocking the frong is that it creates the illusion of the perfect hourglass figure by enhancing the curve of your hip and pushing out your booty.
Beyonce has been wearing them repeatedly on Instagram, most recently parading her curves in a daring high-leg rainbow swimsuit, before her and Nicki Minaj went for twin Frongin’ on stage at the TIDAL X music event in New York.
Despite offering up the dangerous possibility of a front wedgie, the Frong seems to be taking the celebrity world by storm. And it’s all because of that coveted side-bum effect it produces.
Dr Carolyn Berry, Medical Director and Founder of Firvale Clinics, says of the trend: ‘The new trend for showing side bum is actually mainly about an illusional trick and relies more on posture and positioning, than actually substance of tissue.’
‘The side butt can be created by sitting in a high-cut swimsuit or workout gear, this creates an illusion of more curve.’
You can say that again. Khloe Kardashian is also huge fan of the body-enhancing trick, working a black swimsuit pulled up and teamed with a sailor cap on holiday last year, and more recently, her grey high leg Adidas Originals bodysuit by Rita Ora on Instagram.
Kylie Jenner has also been bigging up her booty with a high-leg one piece, while rapper Nicki Minaj has been working the ’90s swimwear staple for years.
Check out Topshop and American Apparel to work the trend (if you’re brave enough!). And Carolyn’s got some expert tips for you to make the most of your derriere…
‘Embrace your natural shape and keep your butt toned by working out and climbing stairs’, she says.
