As the rumor mill goes mad over Cindy Crawford potential retirement from modeling, news comes that her daughter Kaia Gerber look set to follow in her mum’s supermodel footsteps.
The 16-year-old beauty has bagged a major fashion campaign as the face of LA based jewellery brand, Chrome Hearts.
Kaia started modeling young and appeared in her first campaign – for Versace nonetheless – at the tender age of 10. Since then she has also been featured in Porter, Teen Vogue and Vogue Italia, and has garnered a impressive 349k following. We predict big things for Kaia…
Despite implying she had plans to retire last week, Cindy Crawford has since spoken out on Instagram to suggest otherwise.
Few supermodels are as iconic as Cindy Crawford. With her trademark mole, she has worked in the industry for more than 30 years, appearing on the catwalk for fashion’s heavyweights including- deep breath- Chanel, Valentino, Christian Dior, Versace, DKNY, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. She has graced just about every single magazine cover possible, and has appeared on billboards around the world. No surprise, then, that the world’s media was whipped into a frenzy by the news of the 49-year old’s retirement.
Speaking to United Airlines’s Rhapsody magazine, Cindy said: “I’m sure I’ll have my picture taken for 10 more years, but not as a model anymore. And that’s OK. I’ve done it. I’ve worked with all these incredible photographers. What else do I need to do? I can’t keep reinventing myself. I shouldn’t have to keep proving myself. I don’t want to.”
The model, who celebrates her 50th birthday later this month, went on to say: “Women like Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda, they look amazing and they look appropriate. They look amazing but they’re not trying to look 30. I don’t want to be trying to compete with my 14-year-old daughter [Kaia Gerber] – because I would lose!”
Indeed, Cindy’s teenage daughter is now signed to IMG models, and has been causing quite a stir thanks to the striking resemblance between mother and daughter. But while Kaia is carving out a name for herself in the world of modelling, a recent Instagram post from her iconic mum has contradicted all those retirement rumours.
Posting an incredible picture of herself wearing a cut-out black dress, Cindy wrote:
“Every year, I tell my kids I’m retiring. It’s a running joke in our family. And yet every year, opportunities pop up that really excite me. While it’s true that I’m eager to shift my focus a bit to concentrate on my businesses, friends and family — I’m not making any final statements (not all headlines tell the whole story!). I have loved being part of the fashion industry for the past 30 years — and if that time has taught me anything, it’s this: never say never. Thanks for all the support, I’m so excited for what 2016 holds! xo Cindy.”

Having just appeared in Balmain’s SS16 campaign alongside Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford certainly doesn’t look like a supermodel on the brink of retirement. We can only watch this space.
