People Are Actually Naming Their Babies After Instagram Filters

Don’t get us wrong, we love Instagram as much as the next person, but letting the social media app influence what we choose to name our children? Now that is a step too far. However, a poll undertaken by BabyCenter in America suggests that naming babies after Instagram filters is actually a trend on the rise. Yes, really.

Names like Lux, Juno, Valencia, Reyes, Ludwig and Willow are some of the baby names that became popular in 2015, with Lux growing in popularity by an astonishing 75% from 2014.

It’s not strange for popular culture to influence what new parents choose to name their children – believe it or not, One Direction and Twilight both once influenced what the public chose to call their babies – but for photo filters to be the inspiration behind a name seems to be a whole other kettle of fish. Add to this the fact that an emoji won word of the year and it all just seems a bit bleak.

And it would seem that we are not alone in our view. Mother-to-be and all round goddess Chrissy Teigen has poked fun at the trend in a tweet this week, joking, “John and I can’t wait to welcome little X-Pro II into the world.”

We are glad we can rely on the superstar couple to avoid the Instababy trend and we just hope all of those other pregnant celebs (or indeed people we actually know) follow suit.
