Our favourite high street stores are dropping their new spring/summer collections as we speak, and we can’t wait to get our hands on these new pieces. There’s one problem though: the dreaded weather. The temperatures have dropped and the last thing we want to be doing when it’s this cold is risk catching a death in a flimsy dress, or lose feeling in our feet thanks to a pair of new season shoes.
This doesn’t mean you need to put your spring/summer buys to the back of the wardrobe though, you just need to be smart with the way you wear them. In order to help you get the most out of your new purchases we’ve rounded up some nifty styling hacks for wearing four of this season’s key spring pieces in the cold. Follow these tips and we can guarantee you won’t catch a cold…
1. Slip Dress
This ‘90s trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and there’s one piece that defines the look more than any other: the slip dress. To sport this look all year round wear a skinny roll neck under your slip and partner you dress with thick tights and boots. Stay super snug (and fully embrace the grunge look) by adding a parka and a beanie.
2. Cut Out Shoulders
The off the shoulder trend is big for 2016 but you don’t have to wait ’till summer to champion this look. Avoid the cold by making sure you layer, layer, layer. For winter why not style your blouse with a faux fur gilet, flared jeans and a duster coat?
There’s nothing fun about freezing cold ankles but if you want to adopt this spring’s cropped trouser trend early then we have a solution. Pair your culottes with a pair of knee-high boots for an easy and stylish way to keep warm. Complete the winter look with a cape and a fedora and you’ll be good to go.
4. Statement Platforms
We can’t wait for warm summer days when we can finally start showing a bit of bare leg again. Until then if we want to wear some of these season’s seriously covetable platforms you’re going to need some form of extra warmth. Take a cue from street style stars and wear a pair of socks with your heels. Beat the chill and give your outfit an instant style update. Win, win.
