If there’s one thing that makes our skin crawl, it’s body-shaming. That’s why when 19-year-old student and blogger Sara Petty from Ohio took it upon herself to slam her body-shamers accompanied by a big cheesy grin, we were right there behind her.
Yep, in a bid to boost confidence in young girls like herself, Sara took the plunge and uploaded snaps of herself in four pieces of clothing she feels causes the most controversy: bikinis, crop tops, booty shorts and leggings.
But, as well as making others feel good about themselves, Sara took the opportunity to name and shame by positioning the photos next to, quite frankly, DISGUSTING comments she’d previously received from internet trolls.
Don’t believe us? Here’s a few examples:
“Please don’t wear a bikini if you’re 200+ pounds. Thanks *sick face emoji*”
“Sorry but if your over 200 pounds you shouldn’t be trying to fit your fat ass in a crop top. You CANNOT pull it off.”
“Attention all girls over 200 pounds: please do yourself and all of us a favour and throw the booty shorts in the garbage. Gross.”
“It is NOT acceptable to wear booty shorts while being 200+ pounds. #sorrynotsorry”
“If you’re over 200 pounds I would highly recommend you to never wear leggings omg.”
We KNOW. And just to make matters worse, Sara followed her snaps with the comment: “Also – all of those tweets came from WOMEN. Girls, stop tearing other girls down. Empower one another!”
Since, Sara says the feedback has been all good and has even helped her feel better about herself.
“The post helped me become a little bit more OK with seeing that number on the scale, and I hope that it would help other girls, too.
“I hope that my post moved us just one step closer to being a society where girls can wear what they please without being afraid of ridicule.”
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
