It’s official – skinny is out and wide is in, and in the case of these trousers the wider the better! Palazzo pants marched down the spring runways, with our personal faves being D&G’s floral floaty versions, Fendi’s colour-block ones and Richard Nicoll’s reworking of the pleated palazzo. OK, so we’ve grasped the concept of going wide, but what to wear with them?
- Shoes: Stick to wedges or chunky heeled sandals – it gives ’70s vibe, which is when these babies were a big hit.
- Tops: The main rule is tuck in or belt up. You MUST highlight your waist. Pussy-bow blouses, crisp white shirts, feminine camisoles, bed jackets and oriental-style tops all work well.
- Jackets: Richard Nicoll teamed a sporty bomber for a modern twist. For a more grown-up look try a soft tailored silk blazer, push up your sleeves and add with a skinny belt around the waist. HH
