So you know the way we’ve been waxing lyrical for, well, ever about wearing your flats with your evening gowns? Well: it’s just got the high fashion stamp of approval too. Thanks to Giorgio Armani’s spring/summer 2015 catwalk show at Milan Fashion Week, wearing flat shoes with the most gorgeous, silky evening dresses is the way to go. Practicality and directional fashion? We’re in love.
Showcasing nude chiffon eveningwear and open-toe flats – think Grace Kelly but with a modern day twist – plus relaxed, tailored trouser suits in grey and ivory (new season colours FYI), this show was all about amping up ease and subtle glamour, and toning down the need for va-va-voom wardrobe statements. While Giorgio Armani is one of Italy’s undisputed kings of style, his SS15 collection proved that you don’t need heaps of drama to sell a catwalk collection – just beautiful clothes (and a few flats!).
The best thing about this collection is that the look is totally shoppable now. Hit up H&M’s Studio collection for the closest silky, Grecian-inspired replica of Armani’s dresses we’ve seen, or make your way over to Topshop, who have nailed the asymmetric golden evening dress. Just don’t forget to wear them your flats. The Burberry catwalk may have said you’ll be wearing trainers or Birkenstock-style sandals with your denim jacket, but Armani says that come spring you’ll be wearing flat shoes with your dinner party attire too. Sounds good to us!
