Eva Mendes has explained the meaning behind her and Ryan Gosling’s daughter’s name. And it’s seriously sweet.
The stunning mum-of-one said that ‘Esmeralda’ came about because of her and her man’s obsession with a particularly famous film.
‘We love Hunchback of Notre Dame, we loved the name, the cartoon and the novel,’ Mendes told The Wendy Williams Show. ‘It’s actually a very popular Latin name so it’s easy for my father and certain family members that still don’t speak English to pronounce. That was a good selling point.’

The Training Day star also admitted she hates the term ‘bounce back’, referring to mums getting back into shape after giving birth.
‘I feel like we can be really hard on each other,’ the 41-year-old said when asked about losing baby weight. ‘That whole term ‘bounce back’ after pregnancy. I don’t know. I don’t like that terminology.’
She continued: ‘Look, if you go into the bikini two weeks after, good for you, but that wasn’t me. I just feel like we as women need to support each other more.’
We couldn’t agree more.
But when it comes to style, Eva is always keen to keep up appearances. The 41-year-old actress always looks impeccable when we see her out and about, and from the sounds of it, she doesn’t let the glamour slip an inch once she’s at home.
Speaking about how she keeps the spark alive between her and her leading man, Eva told Extra: ‘You can’t do sweatpants… ladies. The number one cause of divorce in America? Sweatpants. No!’
Does this mean it’s pretty retro tea dresses and heels 24/7 for the Latino beauty? Enviable, but we imagine she’d look just as gorgeous in a onesie.
The new mum also opened up about how she looked that good in the April issue of Women’s Health just a few months after giving birth. And what she said will be a relief to all.
‘You’re helped in those situations, I want women at home to know, you’re lit, you’re angled, so yes, it was a few months after the baby, but with a lot of help.’ Phew!
In the issue, the Hitch star shared her workout regime, which includes running and interval sprints. ‘I realized a long time ago that I needed to have some kind of routine. I don’t love it, but I’ve made peace with that.’
Revealing she also lifts weights, but ‘nothing too heavy, because my muscle bulks up pretty easily. I mix it up with yoga, or sometimes I’ll hike with my trainer’, Mendes also confessed her diet is pretty much meat-free.
‘haven’t eaten meat in about six years, because I don’t agree with factory farming here,’ she said. ‘This is just what worked for me, it’s important to say, but when I cut that out I immediately felt better. And also, after a year of eliminating it, my skin looked brighter and healthier overall.’
