Dermot O’Leary Is Back On Saturday Night TV

Dermot O’Leary is *officially* returning to our TV screens. Hurrah!

The presenter left his role as The X Factor host after eight years at the helm earlier this year, which left us (and many others) pretty gutted.

Despite the fact that he’s been replaced by the ah-mazing combination of Caroline Flack and Olly Murs, we’ve still been hoping for a telly comeback from Derm.

And now it’s here! It’s been announced that the 42-year-old will host a new entertainment show called The Getaway Car.

Okay. So it’s about cars. But we’re still VERY happy.

Dermot will be joined by ex-Top Gear mystery man The Stig on the programme, which has been described as a ‘funny, fast-paced and action-packed competition.’

Couples will compete in driving challenges that test their relationships, with The Stig’s role involving setting lap times for cars.

The BBC have continued to tease us by saying: ‘Only the best get to face the legend that is The Stig.’

Ah yes. Dermot’s latest project is on the BBC. After all that time on ITV with The X Factor, he’s jumped ship to its rival channel.

This wouldn’t be such quite big news if it wasn’t for the fact that The Getaway Car has been given an hour-long slot on Saturday nights.

Hmmm. Now what else is soon due to start on Saturday nights? The X Factor, of course!

But don’t worry. The X Factor will only be on until Christmas and The Getaway Car isn’t due to start until 2016. Phew.

Dermot is clearly very excited about his new job. He’s described it as: ‘A warm show that will stretch a family’s patience with those they love most in the world.’

He continues: ‘We all think we are great drivers. But what tickled me most is seeing how people, who obviously love each other very much, speak to each other when they are behind the wheel of a car.’

We’ll definitely be tuning in.
