Charli XCX can now add the title of designer to her ever-expanding CV, thanks to a brand new collaboration with Boohoo. The high street mega-brand has just announced that Charli will design three different collections over the next 18 months, kicking off with a 20 piece accessories range, launching on 26th October, just in time for the annual party season.
Boohoo has told us that the collections will include super-glam frocks, cosy knits, wear-everywhere tees and, of course, those accessories- all inspired by her decidedly 90s style. From double denim to Clueless-style pink tweed suits to pink vinyl dresses (yes, really) and beyond, Charli’s effortless sense of cool has amassed an army of fans across the world. Imagine Cher Horowitz fell into a wardrobe with Lady Gaga and met a 90s Drew Barrymore on the way. That pretty much sums up Charli’s style. Basically, it’s epic.
Having collaborated with pop superstars such as Icona Pop and Iggy Azalea, Charli has come a long way since she was discovereed on MySpace by a club promoter. Nowadays, her Instagram feed is full of celeb cameos, with Charli regularly hanging out with the likes of Haim and Taylor Swift.
While she’s a Brit girl- she was born in Cambridge- Charli has reportedly just spent $2.8 million on a new home in the Hollywood Hills. Not bad for a 23-year old.
She’s also won us over with her feminist views, as she explained to the Telegraph earlier this year: “For me feminism is about supporting other women and not defining feminism by a certain type of woman. I think you can be a feminist whoever you are- male or female and regardless of the clothes you wear. If you are wearing a short skirt or dressed head to toe and covered up it doesn’t mean you’re not a feminist. Can a woman be sexy and still be a feminist? Definitely.” Preach.
So what did Charli love most about designing for Boohoo? “I had so much fun designing pieces for the winter collection,” she told us. “I can’t wait to get it out there and to wear it myself. It’s sparkly cute and sexy. I hope everyone loves it!”
Something tells us we will.
