You don’t need us to tell you that the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week is always a spectacular. From supermarkets to street protests and Florence Welch singing inside a clam shell, it’s safe to say Karl Lagerfeld will never be content having his models simply walk down a catwalk.
For spring/summer 2016, the fash pack and a shedload of celebrity attendees – hi there Lily Rose Depp, Cara Delevingne, St Vincent and erm, Lewis Hamilton – were invited to board Chanel Airlines as Kaiser Karl took them on a round the world trip, taking off from Terminal Chanel. No, we’re not kidding, Karl did actually create an entire airport, complete with flight attendants – in some very chic uniforms, natch – a baggage drop off and actual departure lounge, from which show-goers watched the models parade by in the latest collection. Oh, and obviously the boarding gate was No.5.
As the guests mingled clutching their ‘flight tickets’ (aka the show invite) Cara Delevingne took a break from the catwalk, watching the show alongside girlfriend St Vincent and Karl’s godson, Hudson Kroenig, who seemed to be seriously entertaining the pair. Lily Rose Depp and mum Vanessa Paradis posed for pics along with Kris Jenner, while Kendall Jenner, Edie Campbell and Lindsey Wixson made up the big names walking the runway.
The collection itself was a travel inspired, global affair. Think a mix of tartan and ikat prints, heritage tweed and all-American bombers and track pants. Continuing the theme, details came in the form of plane shaped pin badges and seatbelt style buckle belts, while the models accessorized with chic patent quilted cases and carry-on’s. Trust Karl to come up with the most Instagram-worthy show of Paris Fashion Week – we can only imagine what he’ll dream up next.
