This Festival Staple Just Got A High Fashion Makeover

Along with chokers, slip dresses and logo t-shirts, the humble bumbag is the latest 90s trend to have a rather stylish makeover.

The poor bum bag – a.k.a  fanny pack – used to get a pretty bad rep. Often associated with croc wearing tourists, over the last few years it’s had a chance to shine thanks to explosion of festival fashion.  The practical accessory is ideal festival fare – simply stuff away all your essentials and have your hands free to drink and dance to your heart’s content.

Now, the bum bag has had a high fashion revamp. And Chanel is to blame. Much like the trainers and the backpacks that came before, the French fashion house has the ability to take the biggest of fashion faux pas and somehow make them extremely covetable.

At Chanel’s most recent couture show the likes of Bella Hadid and Eddie Campbell stormed the runway in mini embellished bags strung on sparkling waist belts. This is a bumbag, but not as you know it. And this new style is a hella lot more luxe than it’s predecessor.

Spotted on a whole host of street style stars and even queen of cool, Kate Bosworth it appears this may swiftly becoming this season’s ‘it’ bag. Bum bag, belt bag or saddle bag – whatever you name it, we want one!

If you’re struggling with how to wear it, just think of the bum bag as your new cross-body bag and sling it over any outfit ensemble. So much easier than a clutch, eh?
