Blake Lively has announced that she’s shutting down her lifestyle website Preserve.
The 28-year-old launched the site last summer, describing it as a celebration of artisans and aiming to showcase people all over America who ‘make things with their hands’.
But in an interview with Vogue, Blake explained that she’s temporarily closing Preserve in order to turn it into something a little different.
‘We have an incredible team of people who do beautiful work, but we launched the site before it was ready, and it never caught up to its original mission,’ explains Blake.
‘It’s not making a difference in people’s lives, whether superficially or in a meaningful way. It’s very exciting and it’s also incredibly scary.
‘I never thought I would have the bravery to actually do that, to take the site dark and to say: “You know what? I haven’t created something that is as true and impactful as I know it can and will be.”
‘And I’m not going to continue to chase my tail and continue to put a product out there that we, as a team, are not proud of.’
And last night, Miss Lively took to Instagram to thank all her fans for their support since making the announcement with the caption: “Thank you guys for your support every step of the way in the @preserve_us adventure. I couldn’t be more grateful!! One day I’ll stop wearing so many hats ….but …I’ll probably be dead by then so… I’m just doin’ what mama taught me 😉 She’s my idol. Who’s yours?”
Meanwhile, Blake admits that Preserve was met with a heavy dose of skepticism when it first went live, partially thanks to its name and its similarities to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop.
Blake Lively isn’t afraid to admit that she’s scared about the relaunch
She laughs: ‘I never thought people would think Preserve had something to do with jam.
‘Like: “Oh, you sell jams!” “No! It’s like preserving things and us and life and artisans!” These are all of the things you don’t think of when you’re too intimate with something.’
But while Blake has prepared herself for people to ‘have a heyday’ with her ‘failure,’ she seems to be feeling even more inspired to finally create the site that she always planned to.
And there’s one very special person helping her through it all – her husband Ryan Reynolds.
Ryan Reynolds has been a big support to Blake Lively
‘I’m going to take this hit, and the only way I can prove all the negative reactions wrong is to come back with a plan that will rock people,’ she says.
‘And I’m totally terrified out of my mind! I’ve asked my husband to just play Shake It Off on a loop – it feels really good to listen to it on a loop!’
We’re just excited to see what she does next.
